Reverse Osmosis Systems

If you want clean, clear, great-tasting water straight from the tap, a reverse osmosis (RO) system is one of the best solutions out there. At Lowery’s Plumbing, we install and service reverse osmosis units throughout Florida for customers who want better water for drinking, cooking, or even brewing coffee. With the right setup, you can eliminate a wide range of contaminants and enjoy peace of mind about what’s coming out of your faucet.

How Reverse Osmosis Improves Water Quality

Reverse osmosis works by forcing water through a semipermeable membrane. That membrane only allows pure water molecules through and filters out everything else (sediment, minerals, chlorine, and even microscopic contaminants). It’s one of the most thorough water purification methods available.

Most residential RO systems are set up under the kitchen sink and deliver purified water through a dedicated faucet. You get bottled-water quality without ever having to buy a single jug. It’s a great upgrade if you’re tired of hard water taste, cloudy ice cubes, or chemical smells in your water.

Contaminants Removed by Reverse Osmosis

One of the biggest benefits of RO is how much it can remove. These systems pull out lead, fluoride, nitrates, chlorine, arsenic, PFAS, and other chemical residues. Here in Florida, we’ve got a variety of water conditions depending on your source, whether it’s city water or a private well.

We’ve seen cases where wells have too much sulfur, iron, or other unwanted minerals. RO can knock those down, along with pesticides or heavy metals that show up in some municipal water supplies. If you’re concerned about what’s in your water, we can test it and match you with the right RO solution to target those specific contaminants.

RO vs. Carbon Filters and Whole-House Systems

An RO system is ideal when your priority is ultra-pure drinking water. It goes a step further than carbon filters, which are good for taste and chlorine removal but won’t catch things like lead or fluoride.

Whole-house filters are great for general filtration, especially if you’re treating water for appliances, showers, or laundry. But they’re not built for the level of purification that RO delivers. That’s why many of our customers choose a combination setup: a whole-house filter for basic treatment, and a reverse osmosis unit for drinking water.

If you’ve already got a water softener or filtration system, we can evaluate how RO fits into that setup so you’re not doubling up unnecessarily.

Maintenance and Service Plans

Like any filter-based system, RO units need routine maintenance. That includes changing the pre-filters and post-filters every 6 to 12 months, and replacing the membrane every 2 to 3 years depending on your water quality and usage. If the filters get clogged, the system stops working efficiently or slows down.

We offer scheduled maintenance plans for customers who want us to handle all that for them. But if you prefer to DIY, we can show you exactly how to swap filters and flush the system. Most homeowners find it simple once they’ve done it once or twice.

If you notice a change in water taste, pressure, or clarity, that’s usually a sign the filters need attention. And we’re always a phone call away if something seems off.

Reverse osmosis gives you control over your water quality, and it’s one of the best investments you can make for your health and peace of mind. Whether you’re on city water or well water, we’ll make sure your RO system is the right fit and installed to last.
